Legacy Program

For The Love Of Paws provides peace of mind to Senior Citizens who can no longer care for their pet(s) due to being placed into Hospice, Memory Care, Assisted Living, Nursing Home, or undergoing a medical issue and temporarily cannot care for their pet(s) due to extended rehabilitation.

We currently ONLY accept pets from Senior Citizens residing in Indian River County, Florida. We do NOT accept pets from caretakers or third parties. For this reason we require you to apply to our Legacy Program before anything happens to you making you unable to care for your pet(s).

Our Legacy Program Provides:

– Immediate possession and care of your pet(s) regardless of the time of day.

 – Your pet(s) will be cared for the remainder of their lives on our sanctuary in our care until deemed by us or a veterinarian that they are at end of quality of life. End of quality of life does not include blindness, deafness, or disabilities in which we can assist such as mobility. Euthanasia is only used as a last resort to end suffering and loss of will.

 – We supply postcards, business cards and magnetic cards so you can notify your family, friends, neighbors, health care providers and medical personnel that your pet(s) is/are registered in our program so that we may be contacted immediately in the event that you can no longer care for them for any reason.

What we require of you in order to have your pet(s) placed into our Legacy Program:

-Complete the enclosed application for approval.

-If financially able, you may provide financial assistance for the care of your pet(s) by establishing a Pet Trust, or Will, either through your Attorney or Financial Adviser. Our IRS EIN # 47-305-1354

-A Pet Trust and/or Donation is NOT required to pre-register your pet(s) into our Legacy Program.

We do NOT euthanize healthy pets, or those who can live safely and cared for on our Sanctuary.

Our Legacy Program will provide a lifetime of love and care for your pet(s) when you can no longer do so.

To date our Sanctuary has 2 cottages that house cats surrendered to us by Senior Citizens. All the cats are now fur-ever sanctuary cats.

Each cat cottage also has a connected catio, which allows the cats to go in and out of a cat door to the outside. It is all contained. They are safe from predators and from wandering into the road.

About The Sanctuary:

All permanent (or fur-ever) Legacy dogs currently sleep in our family home on the sanctuary. Most sleep on human beds. Those that cannot safely get on/off human beds sleep comfortably on dog beds, or blankets next to human beds. The dogs are able to run (or roam free) in our fenced in property. Our goal is to have all 5 acres properly fenced for the dog's safety.

Since the dogs live in our family home, we are only taking in a limited amount of dogs at a time. We do have future plans to build a Dog Bungalow, which will be a sheltered sleep area with option to go outside in fenced in area. Great for dogs who do not socialize well with other dogs. It will also allow us to offer more dogs a human bed or sofa to sleep on!

The dogs also go on vacation with us! We've taken them to the mountains, to a canyon, to the beach, and day trips like Bok Tower Gardens.
